I started the project in the way that I always do… Pitching prototypes to those around me.
Originally my goal was to capture a “more authentic moment” in a student’s life. But I quickly realized that by their nature, photos are inauthentic.
To get around the inauthenticity, I thought about removing creative control and globalizing the project by asking others to participate.
But that’s not C4. So, I pivoted. After a discussion with my roommate about photography, I realized that subject matter isn’t what makes a photo good.
It’s about emotion. So, I chose one of my favorite artistic feelings; emptiness, and decided to make the emptiest feeling photo possible.
