Nepal: A photographic Journey

In June of 2017 I travelled to Kathmandu, Nepal to take my first stab at a childhood dream: Adventuring in the Himalayas. But, I saw this adventure as more than just a time to explore, I saw it as an opportunity to tell a story and combine my passion for photography with my desire to make something more of my trip.

I knew that I needed all the help I could get to make the project a success, so, I enlisted mentors. As many of them as I could. With their help, I was able to fund the project and receive honorary grants such as the George Daly Grant, Majorie C. Britton Award, Family Fund Grant, and Honors Program Distinguished Award.

Listening to local stories and knowing the country on a deeper level added an entirely new dimension to the trip for me. Living at altitude was an eye-opening, challenging experience, and I can't wait to do it again.

As we hiked the 120+ mile circuit, my camera was constantly on, capturing over 8,000 images during the trek. As we journeyed, a story unfolded. It was one of marginalized people, a westernizing economy and rapid change. I aimed to demonstrate the way I saw Nepal through the book.

The finished product: Over 1,100 hours of shooting, hiking, editing and designing went into this project. It tells a story of duality and raises serious questions about ecotourism. Available on the Blurb Bookstore.
